China Unicom has teamed up with game developer NetDragon WebSoft to demonstrate the possibilities enabled by a 5G-powered classroom.
The partners held a conference titled ‘5G + Smart Education Industry’ in Wuhan, the capital city of the Hubei Province in central China, to show off their innovations.
China Unicom demonstrated an open physics lecture which taught students across different regions simultaneously through employing holograms and 5G technology.
Mr. Liang Baojun, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom, commented:
“5G will become a crucial foundation for our country’s information and communication construction, as well as the key to the development of industrial internet and artificial intelligence.
We will leverage resources from our existing network, incubation of 5G applications, and support from our industrial chain to fully support the development of education in China.”
NetDragon also demoed a wide range of education products including Holographic Interactive Learning, VR Immersion Classroom, VR Fire Safety, VR Anti-Drug, One-Stop Learning, 101 Education PPT, and other educational products.
Dr. Xiong Li, CEO of NetDragon, commented:
“As the technical supporter of this open class, NetDragon is committed to delivering innovative ideas and technologies to the industry.
The success of this open lecture not only allowed the industry to witness the mature application of China Unicom’ 5G technology but also fully demonstrated NetDragon’s holographic technology and VR technology and its plentiful education resources.”
The conference was also organised by the National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning and National Engineering Laboratory for Educational Big Data of Central China Normal University, China Information Communication Technologies Group Corporation, and Huawei Technologies.
China Unicom has announced a string of collaborations in recent weeks. The operator partnered with Ericsson to launch a smart harbour at the Port of Qingdao just last week that achieved several groundbreaking firsts.
Our sister publication IoT News recently discussed the port in an interview with Ericsson IoT Head Jeff Travers:
