Hurricane Electric deploys new PoP at e-shelter in Switzerland

News and Business

Hurricane Electric, the global fibre connectivity provider, has added a new point-of-presence (PoP) at e-shelter, the owner, operator and developer of data centres across Europe. The new PoP is located at e-shelter’s Rümlang, near Zurich data centre in Switzerland.

The PoP is Hurricane Electric’s third location in Switzerland and it says it will provide enterprises in and around Zurich with improved fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in the delivery of next generation IP connectivity services.

Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric, said: “Zurich is an economic and cultural hub in Switzerland and one of Europe’s major financial centres. We are keen to work with e-shelter to provide their customers with cost-effective connectivity options.”

Customers there now have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE, 10GE and 1GE ports. Additionally, customers at the facility are able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s extensive global backbone, which offers over 7,500 different networks via more than 200 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.

e-shelter’s Zurich facility offers customers connections to the company’s Datacenter Frankfurt 1 and Frankfurt 3 facilities, as well as to commercial third party data centres on request.

Hurricane Electric has five redundant 100G paths that cross North America, five separate 100G paths between the US and Europe, 100G rings in Europe and Asia, a fibre ring around Africa and a PoP in Australia.
