UK ISP BitStreme (BitBahn.io) has today announced that they’ve launched their new 1Gbps capable hybrid fibre optic and Microwave wireless broadband network to cover three locations around Bedfordshire, which will very soon be followed by additional areas in Essex and Kent.
The setup appears to be similar to the hybrid approach proposed as part of Facebook’s Terragraph network, which means that a mix of fibre optic and wireless technology can be used to deliver Gigabit capable “last mile” connections to properties. Download speeds range from 250Mbps to 1Gbps and upload performance will be capped at 50% of the download (bespoke options are available).
In this setup the ISP will aim to connect premises using a direct “full fibre” network from their nearest Points of Presence (PoP), while in other areas the delivery will be done using a combination of 60GHz based Microwave and a more traditional 5GHz wireless connection.
The first locations to benefit from this new network include Bedford, Cranfield and Upper Dean in Bedfordshire (England), although the ISP has also been delivering speeds of up to 100Mbps “over the air” since their first installation in Thurleigh three years ago. Going forward BitStreme told ISPreview.co.uk that they would also be extending to one area of Essex and Dartford in Kent later this month.
As a business we are looking at the future and how we grow our footprint from both a community and commercial route within this highly competitive growth market. Our eyes are open and we have a plan of attack that may open the route to 10,000+ potential POP locations to be able to deliver much further and wider.
BitBahn / IQUnity Ltd started trading in 2006 to provide best in class WiFi services at the time connecting customers in mass where others failed, as a business we believe in delivering the correct understructure to facilitate the service requirements fully. When our competitors were using broadband for connectivity, we were using leased lines, when they upgraded to 100Mbps we went to 1Gbps. Today we connect over 1 Million end user devices across our various platforms every single month and continue to grow this aspiration daily.
Today not only do we show the shoes on the WiFi of Selfridges, up the odds at Hippodrome Casio or provide the capacity for research at Mologic we deliver and provide the best fixed connectivity services to our customers from good old copper broadband to the latest dedicated Fibre optic based services possible, backed by 24×7 support and good old engineering credentials.
Prices for their alternative “Gigabit at Home” network start from £45 inc. VAT per month for a 250Mbps (125Mbps upload) package with unlimited usage, 3 day fix SLA, 12 month contract and a £150 installation fee (free on their 36 month term), which rises to £85 per month for their top 1000Mbps (500Mbps upload) package.
Lee Quince, Director of BitBahn.io, told ISPreview.co.uk that as an alternative network ISP they currently pass in the region of available to service (i.e. install within 7 days) approximately 100,000 premises, which is across their range of our services. We also note that they offer some Openreach based G.fast and Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) packages.
